Evolutionary Creatures of the Air
The Fell Drakes
With a wingspan of ten feet, these beasts rule the lower regions of the sky. The open plains are dominated by packs of Fell Drakes, whom are always searching the expansive lands for their next meal. Their jaws are easily powerful enough to crush a human head. Fell drakes also posses razor sharp tongues that can be whipped out of their mouth at the speed of an archers arrow. These tongues reach up to 4 foot in length."
The Bolt Locusts
An extremely large insect, mostly found during storms. Bolt Locusts use their immense eight-foot wingspan to take in the static electricity within storm clouds, then discharge it in small-scale attacks. However, even these small attacks can be deadly. They tend to stay within their various caved homes unless their preferred conditions arise on the outside, and can mass into the thirties per nest. Although these aren't the scariest monsters in Lucidea, their dens are the hardest to walk out of."
The Skitterghouls
At around two-feet tall, Skitterghouls aren't much of a threat by themselves, but in numbers... they are an extreme threat. These little buggers swarm over larger prey, flaying their flesh away bit by bit with curved claws and dagger-like teeth. With each cut, the stamina of the target is sapped. Even if you survive a Skitterghoul attack, seeking immediate aid from a priest is highly recommended. They are able to pump their larvae into the skin of enemies they attack, and they will grow to maturity, ripping from their host's body within hours."
The Shriekers
A twelve-foot wingspan carries this thin beast through the skies, using it's sharp eyes to scan for corpses. While not inherently aggressive, Shriekers do possess the ability to release ear-splitting screeches which can be heard for miles. When the castles and kingdoms of old Lucidea were being seiged by the beasts, Shriekers would lay their eggs in certain sections of the castle walls and gates. If they grew and lived long enough to call out for their mother, the other creatures seemed to know that their section was unmanned enough to raid. Nowadays, Shriekers lay their eggs in the abandoned forts and buildings that scatter the wasteland."
The Reavers
Reavers are around twenty-two feet long, and levitate with no real apparent means to do so. While their tendrils are physically dangerous, this is not the only threat posed by a Reaver. These beasts can absorb the magical energy from fresh corpses, then release it as an attack. On corpses they kill themselves, they can even weakly imitate the corpses energy based abilities.Nobody has ever been able to track a Reaver, leading to absolutely limited information about their subrace."
